Jane and Finch was originally developed as a model suburb in the 1960s in response to the rapid urban growth of Toronto. Unfortunately insufficient thought was given to the social infrastructure needed to sustain community life.
In spite of this there is a strong cultural community celebrating its diversity and community power. The residents of Jane and Finch are strong participants of Carribana, Hispanic Day, International Womens Day, Driftwood's Annual Multicultural Festival to name a few.
A large portion of residents are of Jamaican, African, Latin and South East Asian descents.
